This is the type of thing I will be including in my book. Shots that will minimize your risk, and maximize your reward, a key to success in golf.

You'll use this shot from 20 yards or so when you've got to stop the ball quickly on the green, but you've got trouble short, so you can't do a bump and run.

Grab a high lofted wedge, a 56 or 60, even 64 if you've got one. Now play the ball in the middle of your stance and grip well down. Instead of placing your hands well forward like on a normal pitch shot, you're going place your hands in the middle of your stance as well. What this will do is allow you to have a shallow angle of approach.

This may confuse you a little so I'll explain why. You want a shallow angle of approach on this shot because you won't be swinging with too much speed on this shot. You're going to create your spin by using the angle of your clubface.

Move your hands back low, taking the club back not even to parallel with the ground. Now on your approach through the ball, move your hands through at the same low angle contacting the ball with your hands at the same position they were at address.

This will pop the ball up high and land it softly without having to perform a risky flop shot. Practice it enough and you'll have a serious weapon around the green.

Short Game Folks, Short Game

Alrighty everyone, today's lesson comes from a round I had today. I haven't played in about 2 and a half weeks, haven't even been able to pick up a club because I've been so busy. Now usually I'll hit about half the greens with so-so ball striking and my short game will bail me out so I end up shooting in the mid 70s.

Today was a bit different. I hit 8 greens, which I wasn't happy about, but not that bad. The sad part was, only 2 up and downs through all of those holes. Ended up shooting 80 because my short game was so rusty.

The lesson here, and I'll say it time and time again is: PRACTICE YOUR SHORT GAME, 60-70% of the time. It is the most precise part of the game. You have to be perfect here. This is where the ball goes in the hole.

It's ok to be a little off on your drives and iron shots and you're allowed some errors there, but around the greens, NO SIR!

Practice your short game
Practice your short game
Practice your short game

If you haven't picked up your free short game guide yet, you can get it by entering your name and email on the form at the top right.
